6 Reasons to Switch to Full Fibre Broadband

21st January 2025

The internet is a huge part of our lives. Whether you use it for work, education, or entertainment, having a fast and reliable connection is super important. Many people may feel satisfied with their current broadband service, however, switching to full fibre broadband could bring you some serious benefits you might be missing out on.

What is full fibre?

Full fibre broadband (also called FTTP broadband) is basically the newest, fastest kind of internet you can get, where the connection coming into your home uses modern glass fibre cables instead of old copper phone wires. Think of it like this – old, copper broadband is like data travelling along a long, worn-out road that continually slows you down. While full fibre is like travelling on a brand-new, super-fast motorway going directly to your house.

Because of that, everything loads quicker, videos don’t buffer as much, and your connection stays stable even when lots of people or devices are using the internet at the same time.

What’s the difference between full fibre and partial fibre?

Unlike full fibre, partial fibre (FTTC broadband) uses fibre optic cable from the telephone exchange to the street cabinet, then uses a traditional copper telephone cable for the last stretch into the home. So instead of that fast, direct connection running all the way to your home, partial fibre only uses those newer cables for part of the journey. The final stretch then relies on older copper wiring to do the job.

That means while you still get some improvement with partial fibre, you don’t get the full benefit. Speeds can dip, and your connection isn’t quite as consistent, especially during busy times.

6 reasons to switch to full fibre

1. Full fibre means faster speeds

With full fibre broadband, you can get superfast speeds of up to 5 Gigabit per second (aka 5000Mbps) that’s crazy fast! This means you can download large files in an instant, stream movies without any buffering or play games online without lag holding you back.

2. Full fibre broadband is more reliable

Full fibre broadband is far more reliable than other connections. Fibre optic cables are less prone to interference from bad weather and signal loss, and can easily handle loads of devices being online at once. Also, because the connection is purely yours, you don’t share it with your neighbours. That means no peak time congestion when everyone around you is streaming, gaming and working, all at the same time.

3. Full fibre is great for productivity

Having a speedy, reliable internet connection can really boost your productivity and help you to get more stuff done in less time. With full fibre broadband, you can download and upload files like a pro and hold video meetings without any annoying interruptions.

4. Its technology is futureproof

Full fibre is without a doubt the future of broadband connectivity. With more devices becoming connected to the internet and new technologies arising, the need for a reliable connection with much more bandwidth is only going to increase. It also means you no longer have to rely on an old-fashioned landline to supply your internet – especially as many of us are barely making landline phone calls these days.

So when you switch to full fibre broadband, you’re future proofing your internet and allowing yourself to enjoy the latest tech as it becomes available without being interrupted by buffering and lag. Plus, you’ll never need to switch your broadband provider again!

5. Full fibre is better value

Full fibre broadband might appear pricier. But in the long run, it’s actually a pretty sweet deal because you get more bang for your buck than with traditional ‘fibre’ broadband services. Full fibre can mean you get the same upload and download speeds, perfect for gaming and video-calling. The equipment is usually better too as it’s built to handle faster speeds. And you don’t need to set it up yourself - an engineer will do it all for you and set up your home for success.

With superfast broadband speeds and reliable connectivity, you can boss your work in less time, meaning you can be far more efficient and productive. Win-win, right?

6. It can increase the value of your home

Our growing reliance on fast, stable internet means that having full fibre can actually add up to £3,500 of value to your property. This makes it more than just an internet upgrade, but a worthwhile investment that makes your property more attractive to buyers for years to come!
