Smarter home calling with VoIP

Yes you can still make emergency calls with a Digital Voice phone providing your broadband connection is working.

In the event of a power outage or emergency where your broadband isn't online, you may not be able to make emergency calls unless you have access to an alternative means of contact such as a mobile phone.

Your Lightspeed broadband package comes with internet backup features to help you stay connected during service interruptions so you can have online access in the event of an emergency.

You won’t find an inbuilt ATA port on our routers. Instead our Hub connects to both your LightSpeed router and your phone.

VoIP compatible phones use a connector called an ‘RJ11’. It’s different to the familiar 431A connector that fits older BT Openreach sockets.

So, to connect your phone to the KIT hub you’ll either need an RJ11 to RJ11 cable, or a 431A to RJ11.

Adapters are supplied by KIT for the Kit Hub and Kit Pro packages only. Just unplug from the current socket your phone’s plugged into, plug it into the KIT hub, and it’s sorted.

We don’t recommend it, as it can reduce call quality. Instead we suggest connecting your KIT Hub directly into one of your LightSpeed Hub’s ethernet ports. If you need a handset closer to your beacon, or in another bit of your home, you’ll need to buy twin/trio/quad DECT handset bundles. Then you can connect the main handset to your LightSpeed Hub and any extra handsets elsewhere.

KIT lets you make voice calls using traditional phones over the Internet through VoIP. While some non-telephone devices might work with KIT when linked to the router, due to the vast array of devices available, we can't guarantee they'll all be compatible.

We don’t exclude specific devices, but it's important to consider suitability. Alarms and emergency devices need to work 100% of the time. A power or Internet outage that may affect phone lines could limit this.

It's quick and easy. Just unplug your phone from the BT Openreach wall socket and connect it to the ATA hub. Need a new landline number? We can arrange that for you. Alternatively, you can transfer your existing one.

Yes you can! The transfer typically takes 5-15 working days from when the transfer request is submitted and accepted by the network providers.

KIT is designed to support analogue handsets. You can use the same one as you’d use with a traditional fixed telephone line. However, the preferred handset types are Digital/DECT, which let you use all of KIT’s useful extra features.
