'Broadband is just the beginning' as LightSpeed sets out new mission with Home Security offering
18th June 2024

Broadband provider LightSpeed has today re-launched with a new visual identity, expanded product offering, and symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 2,000Mbps (megabits per second).
While previous packages from the provider saw speeds of up to 1,000Mbps, broadband customers and businesses will benefit from doubly fast speeds of gigabit internet.
The East of England-based company will become a comprehensive digital service provider, marked with the introduction of a new bundle of home security products alongside full-fibre broadband and Digital Voice connectivity.
New and existing customers will have the option of upgrading to a security package, as the brand has partnered with SimpliSafe. Three systems will be on offer with the SimpliSafe range:
The Starter is SimpliSafe’s introductory system – earning Best Buy status from Which? – including an entry sensor, motion sensor and wired HD indoor camera, controlled via a keypad sensor and managed by a base station with backup battery
The Tower with all the features of the Starter package, an extra entry sensor and a wired HD outdoor camera to monitor visitors (whether welcome or not!), plus a complimentary SimpliSafe bell box deterrent with flashing light and 105db siren, which activates if a sensor is triggered
The Edinburgh – SimpliSafe’s premium system – including all the above features, plus two key fobs, an extra motion sensor and entry sensor, a temperature sensor (warning of freezing pipes) and water sensor (detecting leaks)
In addition to the home security offering, customers will still have access to the provider’s Digital Voice range with home phone line company KIT. The home phone offering allows users to transfer landline phone numbers to a virtual service that can be diverted directly to any UK mobile with KIT Virtual. The KIT Hub enables home phones to work over the internet in anticipation of the landline switch off, which is expected to happen by December 2025. Meanwhile, KIT Pro allows users to enjoy all the KIT benefits above with unlimited UK mobile calls and the brand’s leading mobile app. In turn, all ‘landline’ calls can be made and received with a mobile phone. Alongside plans to go beyond broadband, LightSpeed is also expanding its network. The provider currently covers 250,000 homes and businesses in the East of England and West Midlands. The next three years will see the company build more than 150,000 new premises across 21 new towns, adding 38,000 residential customers and serving 47 total towns including 6,000 businesses. There are more plans to expand LightSpeed’s offering and customer base in hand for the coming months. This is all in addition to LightSpeed’s competitive gigabit full fibre offering which provides fast broadband speeds and high bandwidth. Commenting on the new direction for the company, LightSpeed CEO, Brett Shepherd, said:
“Our development of the LightSpeed brand this year is a game changer for our existing and future customers. Symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 2,000Mbps, alongside an expanded offering and coverage area, means there’s never been a better time to join our growing family of satisfied customers.
“We now cover more than 250,000 homes and businesses across the East of England and West Midlands, with plans to expand to more than 400,000 by 2027.
“Broadband is just the beginning; we’re immediately offering LightSpeed customers the option of top-of-the-range home security systems. Houses with ultra-fast broadband are future-proofed, and security is a crucial consideration for a comfortable, happy home.
“And that’s just the start. Our ambition is to become a one-stop shop, simplifying the management of all household digital services in one convenient place.”
